watched Worker's Party rally at Hougang today.
we were one of the early birds and we managed to squeeze to the second row and sat on our small lil tools. according to my mum who's a fanatic of all opposition rallies, it was the "hottest" one she ever attended other than the yio chu kang one in 1997--all thanks to she and my dad. they were crazy, just like their friend and all the uncle aunties there. we had whistles and the garang guni horn thing, so funny! started 'peeping' and 'booping' when the team arrived. oh before that, my dad and his friend started getting everyone in the first few rows to sit so that everyone else at the back could see. low and behold everyone started sitting and getting the people behind them to sit. so amusing! there were people everywhere on all 3 sides of the field, on the hills, at the HDB flats looking with binoculars, on the streets. it was really packed, probably more than 10000 people. but all the ones in front(first half) were elderlies, and majority of the other half right at the back were close to 50s, if not 40 odd. the ones who were really enthu and supportive were the elderlies ironically. seriously i just wonder at the age group of the audience 20 years down the road. would anyone of our friends and classmates in 20 years be interested to listen to politics?would anyone be wiling to give up that few hours to listen and care about the government and singapore?

another thing that struck me was the response the speakers got when they spoke in different languages. honestly, it was silence when they started speaking in english because none of the elderlies understood and those younger citizens at the back probably were too educated with proper ettiquette to cheer, at the most they clapped. but it was a whole different atmosphere when the older candidates and members spoke in dialect. to me, i could really sense the passion when they spoke in dialect. i paticularly liked the 70 plus year old NCMP, cant remember his name. he spoke in hokkien so i understood. he talked about how upgrading of flats has become the issue PAP threatens voters with, that PAP constituencies would be allowed upgrading before the opposition constituencies, or maybe never get to benefit from it. it is not wad they WILL do if they win the votes, but wad they SHOULD do since they are the government. so u mean they only do work every five years?? plus wad help does upgrading of homes and market places do when the people are worrying over their livelihood? and issint it stupid to say that we must pay for the upgrading, when taxes and GST are so high and when Singapore's reserve is suc a huge amount. he spoke about many other issues too, cant rmb. but i know he spoke with so much confidence and ease, really could sense the passion in him. plus the way he said things were very funny. "ah nang ki ba sa buay cai buai ba dio deng cu zo ah ni sui kam pui, ya mm c kia hi dao la.."was realy funny. it was really hot when he spoke. the audience really gave full support "ho ho!""sui ah!" all the way. mr low himself was superb. he spoke in teochew since he grew up speaking that and most people living inhougang are teochew lang, since 1930s. i dint understand some parts but the parts that i understood were super. compared to other countries, the amount of money the govt spends on healtcare and services is so so much lower.its only 1 pathetic % of the revenue! and they are intending to start this C class ward testing thing after the elections. only people who fulfil their criteria can stay in C class wards, which is ridiculous. how can u generalise that people whose salary are below a certain amount means they are poor enough to stay in C class? wad if they do have money from inheritance or something? wad if they have to feed a amily of five plus grandparents comapared to a single man or woman? and the weirdest thing is even when u are accepted to C class ward they decide how much u should pay according to the type of house u live in. but its not true that everyone who lives in HDB flat is poor and everyone who lives private estate is rich. and all thse criteria demand proof from the family, means they need to submit documents to prove their loans and jobs and pay slips, which in turn will affect efficient care for patient.
many people started shouting 'eh sai cee buay sai beh'. it means u can die but u cannot fall sick. why? cos dying is much much chepaer than consulting a doctor.
